Women's Health

In the summer of 2014, with the support of WomenStrong International (WSI), H.O.P.E./ASB took a major step in its ability to address women’s health. WSI’s mission is to empower women and support programs that improve women’s lives and that of their children and communities. The objective of our partnership with WSI is to assemble under one umbrella all H.O.P.E./ASB programs that target women across the age spectrum and the name of this program, S.E.E. Fanm, aptly reflects this holistic approach—Sante (Health), Edikasyon (Education) Ekonomi (Economy) for Fanm (Women).

While several programs that fall under S.E.E. Fanm already exist, others are under development. Of particular interest is the improvement of women’s health programs with the addition of an Ob/Gyn to the staff, the construction of an operating room dedicated to gynecological interventions such as C-sections and obstetrics emergencies, the improvement of pre- and post-natal care, family planning, adolescent and post-menopausal women health, and health education. To reach women where they live and to make the experience of seeking care less stressful, we organized mobile clinics for women in several villages of our catchment area. Women can be screened for cervical cancer and STI, receive information about family planning, nutrition, and other issues of concern to them.
