Dr. Rose-Marie Chierici, Ph.D.
Executive Director
Occupation: Assistant Professor, Anthropoly, SUNY Geneseo
Rose-Marie Chierici, Ph.D., is a native Haitian and currently a professor of
Anthropology at State University of New York, Geneseo.
Rose-Marie co-founded H.O.P.E. to actively pursue her vision of social justice and a better future for her homeland.
Dedicated to community development at the grassroots level, Rose-Marie’s vision since H.O.P.E.’s inception is
that the
organization operates on multiple fronts, in solidarity with the community of Borgne, to make a positive
difference in the lives of the people there. She travels frequently to Borgne and is widely known,
cherished and respected by the people of this community. Rose-Marie has been on the Board of Advisors for Partners in
Health since the late 1980’s and maintans a collaborative relationship with Paul Farmer and many others in the PIH/ZLS organization.

Mr. James Ramerman
Board President
Occupation: Executive Organizational Consultant
As an accomplished leadership consultant, and an entrepreneurial businessman,
Jim is Co-CEO of McArdle Ramerman Inc. He leads H.O.P.E.'s Board of Directors and Advisors.
Jim is a visionary for positive change and development for Bergen's people. He has maintained a
commitment to social justice and equitable human development for all of his adult life; and Haiti
has been his major priority for the past 20 years. He and his son, Matt, made a trip together to Borgne
that forever changed their perspective and their lives. His consistent drive for HOPE is that
the organization continues to work with community leaders and citizens toward sustainable and
just living conditions for all.

Mr. Michael Shields.
Deputy Executive Director
Occupation: Founder and CEO, Elogic
In his role as Deputy Executive Director, Michael Shields combines a strong business
and management background with compassion and an active commitment to social justice.
Mike is CEO of eLogic, a management consulting firm providing business process improvement,
information systems and project management services to large, multi-national corporations.
Mike became involved in community development through a growing awareness of the impact of extreme poverty
during his daughter Jenn’s graduate studies; and he joined her in social
justice work for Haiti. Since joining H.O.P.E. Mike has traveled frequently to Borgne and has been responsible for economic
development,and establishment of broader health and sanitation initiatives for Borgne.
He has a degree in Economics from the University of Rochester and a working knowledge in French language.
