H.O.P.E. Leadership Team
The heart and soul of H.O.P.E. lies in Borgne, where we have a staff of 30 people who work for H.O.P.E. and our partners, the Haitian Ministry of Health and PEPFAR.
Leading the staff in Borgne is an astonishingly well-equipped and highly responsive team of health professionals and visionaries.
In the U.S., we have an all-volunteer Board. We are a lean operation, fueled by commitment to the Sante Nan Lakou model, or Haitian Solutions to Haitian Challenges.
Together, we walk the last mile.

Dr. Thony Voltaire, M.D.
Chief Medical Director
Dr. Thony Voltaire (Dokte Thony) received his midical degree in Family Medicine from the Universidad Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina, Cuba in 2006. Dr. Thony wears many hats and shoulders many responsibilities. A brilliant doctor, innovator and tireless advocate for his community, Dokte Thony can be seen regularly riding his motorcycle to the mobile clinic. To get there he crosses a thigh-deep, river and is equally adept to fixing the hospital electrical system as to fixing broken bones.
"I was born on the side of the road as my mother went to market in Borgne."
Dokte Thony has dedicated his life to the community in which he was born. He has been Medical Director of HOPE since 2007. During his tenure, Dokte Thony has managed the medical and administrative operations of the catchment are of 80,000 community members, the majority of which subsist on less than $2/day.
Under his leadership, H.O.P.E. has implemented a three-tier health system praised by Paul Farmer and regarded as among the best in rural Haiti. Dokte Thony manages the community hospital in Fond la Grange, the health center in Bertrand, weekly day-long mobile clinics and week-long mobile hospitals in remote areas (only accessible by primitive walking paths) and a network of community health and outreach workers.
With an outstanding background in Public Health, he is passionate about serving the community he calls home. Dokte Thony believes his work is not done until every person in the community of Borgne has access to top-quality, medical care. He has been the key leader in H.O.P.E.'s development and is widely loved and respected.
