A Mother's Day Filled With Hope

If there was ever a club to join in the Haitian commune of Borgne, it would be a H.O.P.E.'s Mothers Club. Annually, hundreds of women participate in these clubs from across the commune. While each can be unique, at their core, Mothers Clubs focus on providing education and peer support around the importance of prenatal and postnatal care for both the mother and child.

Since the program’s inception close to twenty-seven years ago, Medical Director, Thony Voltaire, MD, recalls,

“Maternal and infant mortality was very frequent. It was impossible to go a week without seeing one. Now, because of the partnerships of Haiti Outreach Pwoje Espwa, Alyans Sante Borgne Hospital and our donors, this program is flourishing, and we are seeing five or fewer such deaths each year.”

Proudly, our clinical teams safely delivered 566 healthy babies last year.

Help doesn’t fall off with the successful birth of a healthy baby. This program encourages women to continue supporting other women. Many of the women who have chosen to continue their support, rise into roles in our Women’s Leadership Program and become respected leaders and agents for community health and change within their community.

Just the same as anywhere in the world, it takes a commune to raise a child. We are thankful for your continued support in helping provide this greatly needed support to the mothers and their little ones in the commune of Borgne, Haiti alongside of us.

Happy Mother's Day from our healthy mothers to yours.
